The ministry of server is centered on serving God and God's people at Mass.
Servers give of themselves to help the priest and the gathered assembly worship better.
In doing so, they also receive God's help and blessing. Servers must have a good disposition toward the Holy Mass and a sense of reverence as they are called upon to "set the pace" for all who take part in the Mass.
This ministry is open to youth and adult parishioners who are 4th grade or older. Altar servers must have already received their first communion and be enrolled in ongoing faith formation classes (CCE) to serve in this ministry. Initial and ongoing training is required
Other than priests and deacons, no one else is closer to the sacrifice of Christ on the altar than those ministering as altar servers. Serving at Mass is a unique ministry that requires dedication, discipline, and devotion. Not only does a server assist the priest and deacon in the celebration of the Mass, but they themselves encounter Christ in His sacrifice in a particular way.
